Why Should I sponsor a child with Project O?

Child sponsorship is a way of fully supporting a child in the long term whilst providing a highly rewarding experience to sponsors. It creates a direct connection between sponsors and a child of their choice; this allows a personal relationship to develop. The sponsor will directly see how their money is equipping their child for a dramatically brighter future.

What happens when I sponsor a child?

When you sponsor a child you are agreeing to make a £19/$31 (R280) contribution each month, each monthly payment provides the following:

• Help to support a child in a Christian run ‘Homestead’ of no more than six children each. Alternatively if this cannot be achieved we will continue to support the child in their current home until space is available in on of our children’s homes or continue to support them there if the situation is an acceptable one.
• Place your child in on going full-time education.
• Provide all school uniform and associated supplies on an on-going basis.
• Place the child within a HIV/AIDS education programme.
• Food supplies for a month.
• As many other needs as we can possibly meet for your child through your support.

Your financial gift is just the start. You can write to your child as often as you like in order to maintain contact with them and encourage them through life’s challenges and struggles. For the children who are either two young or not able to understand English, your letter will be translated both into their language. Any replies from your child will be translated into English so you can read their letters.

As a sponsor you will automatically recieve (free of charge) all Project O publications that highlight our current projects that are in progress as well as those that we are planning at present.

The hardest part for you is deciding which child to choose. The situation in this part of the world is so dire due to the massive impact of HIV/AIDS. Many of the children available for sponsorship will be living with HIV or full-blown AIDS. These children will be greatly encouraged to know that they are not forgotten and that somebody, even on the other side of the world, loves them and is praying for them.

Child sponsorship really is a rare opportunity to continually demonstrate the love of Christ as you stay in communication with your child. You are literally giving these children hope. A hope they have never had before.

I’ve got a sponsor child - What now?

As we have yours and your child’s best interests at heart we will try and help you keep in contact with your child and gain a more personal relationship with them. You can also send you child letters, cards and gifts, anything that will lift your sponsored child’s spirits. Remember where these children are living is often acutely depressing. We encourage you to write as often as you can with words of encouragement.

Please refrain from including your personal address, as all letters will go through our offices in South Africa.
What kind of gifts can I send my sponsor child?

Your child will be happy to recieve:

• Stationary / school supplies
• Letters & photographs
• Clothes and accessories
• For older girls, body lotions and hair accessories
• Games (skipping rope, bad & ball etc…)
• Sports supplies / accessories

What NOT to send your child:

• Sharp or dangerous objects
• Food
• Money (money may end up in the wrong hands and be spent on drugs or alcohol)
• Live objects
• Indecent items
• Fragile objects
• The majority of children will not have access to electical items, and as such will not  have the means to enjoy CD’s, videos or DVD’s (unless you know that they own such items).

Please note: Staff will individually screen all letters and parcels before passing them on to a child. Anything deemed inappropriate or indecent will not be given to a child.

Large & Bulky items

If you are planning on sending a large and/or bulky item and are concerned regarding postal costs, please contact our offices with details of the size of the package along with a short description. Our office staff will endeavour to provide you with an estimate regarding the costs of purchasing the item locally in South Africa. If it will be cheaper to source the item in South Africa, you can arrange to transfer the money to our bank account or send us a cheque for the agreed amount and we will source your gift locally and deliver it to your sponsor child with a card from you. By sourcing the item locally, your child will receive the gifts you intended and you will save all the costs of packaging and international delivery. We will also send you a photo of your sponsor child with your gift.
